Obituary of Marvin Harold Sawatzky

Marvin Harold Sawatzky passed away on July 16th 2016 at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lamont, AB on May 4, 1950 to Harold and Bertha Sawatzky. Marv was predeceased by his father, Harold; sister, Carol; infant son, Michael; Judy’s parents, Jerrold and Pauline Sutter; brothers in-law, Jim and Terry Sutter; Leonard Chykerda and close friend Del Gillett. Marv married Judy Sutter on November 23, 1968. They had 3 children Troy (1970), Michael (1971) and Tracy (1975). Marv began his career working at Union Tractor for many years and then decided to buy the Shell station in Bruderheim. Two years later they moved to Lougheed to work on the Sutter family farm. In 1988 they built their current home in Sedgewick where he continued to farm with Jerrold and the boys. With the passing of his father-in-law Jerrold in 1990, he then moved on as a partsman for John Deere (Grainline)in Killam until 2005. From there he worked for Schuurman Construction and Allan Sutter until his diagnosis in 2011. Marv had plenty of hobbies including golf, camping, hunting, sledding and caring for his animals on the farm. But his real love was fastball which he played with his brothers and friends. He also coached Tracy's fastball and the Grainline slow pitch teams for many years. Marv is survived by his wife Judy; children Troy, Tracy (Tim); granddaughter, Taylor, his pride and joy; his mother, Bertha; 3 brothers, Blair (Mona), Ward (Connie), Ken (Rose); one sister, Linda; brothers-in-law, Ron (Terry), Bobby, Rick (Robin); sister-in-law, Janet (Bill); as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service for Marvin Harold Sawatzky will be held on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sedgewick Community Hall. Please join with the family for a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Sedgewick Legion Hall, following the memorial service. Memorial donations may be made in Marvin’s memory to the Cross Cancer Institute or a charity of donor’s choice.
