Obituary of Tom Atkins

Thomas George Atkins was born the first child of George and Mabel Atkins at Macklin, Saskatchewan on July 31, 1948. He went to grade school in Macklin. Tom married Eileen Barnett in August 1968 and they moved to Edmonton where he worked at, and then managed an Esso gas-station/service station. While in the Edmonton area, Tom and Eileen had two children, Stephen and Corinna. In 1974, he moved with Eileen and the children to Regina. There they raised the children, and Tom enjoyed a career in long haul trucking and then with Regina City Transit, working his way up to supervisor. He retired in 2006 and then with Eileen enjoyed winters in Arizona, and summers in Hardisty, Alberta. Tom is survived by his children, Stephen and Corinna. Stephen with his wife Rebecca gave him two grandchildren, Raya and William. He is also survived by five sisters and three brothers, Linda, Lana, Joan, Marcia, Peter, Richard, Ilene, and Warren. He also leaves to grieve many cousins, nephews, nieces, other family and two communities of friends. In retirement, he enjoyed hauling gravel, flying model airplanes, and spending time with the extended family. In the winters he enjoyed flying, golfing and a close knit group of friends in the warmth of Arizona. Very suddenly, after a suffering a stroke in Yuma, he succumbed on December 17, 2016 in Hardisty, Alberta, at the age of 68. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Hardisty Community Centre. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
