Obituary of Viola Carson

Viola was born in Coronation, Alberta on April 9, 1937, and the first of three girls to James and Jaunita Richardson. She passed away at the Hardisty Long Term Care, March 15, 2018.

Viola lived in the Caroline/Chedderville, Alberta area from the age of 4½ years old until she was 12. She told many happy stories of growing up near her Uncle Donald and Aunt Helen Cole and the fun she had with her cousins. When they moved back to the Brownfield area, she was then surrounded by her many Black, Richardson and Cole relatives. Viola went to boarding school for her Grade 10 at Briercrest in Caronport Sask. and finished Grade 12 at Western Canada High and then attended the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary. While in Calgary she lived with her Uncle John and Auntie Yvette Richardson, and their two young daughters, and worked part-time at a Hardware store. Later she moved to Castor, Alberta where she worked at the Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, until she married Franklin Carson October 11, 1958. Viola then moved to their farm 6 miles south-west of Hughenden, while here she took her training and ran a kidney dialysis machine for several years. Viola remained here until they sold the farm in the spring of 1990 and moved into the town of Hughenden.

During Viola’s life she had many passions; Her Faith in God, her husband and family were her top priorities. She always loved the outdoors and spending time in her huge vegetable garden, her flower gardens and looking after her many fruit trees. She loved to do handiwork in the forms of quilting, sewing clothing for herself and her children, embroidering, cross-stitch, and crocheting afghans. Viola was also very musical and she enjoyed playing both the piano and the accordion, by ear. Viola lived by the motto of “Always Room for One More” whether it was another place set at meal time, or another Foster child added, who needed a home; she was always up to the task.

Viola will be missed by her loving husband Franklin, and her children; Barrie (Janice) Carson, Christine (Lyal) Hill, Kelly (Jan Darcy) Carson, and Carol (Bill) Shuttleworth; her sisters Arla Schaitel and Sharon (Dennis) Kennett, brother in law Edwin (Mary) Carson, Uncle John Richardson, Aunt Betty Tait, Ottilie Kelly and Connie Carson.

Grandchildren: James and Melissa Carson, Monica (Rocky Hunter) Hill, Janet (Roy) Bun, James (Dana) Hill, Jesse (Bex Rose) Carson, Alexis and Grant Carson, Shelby Keets, Kaitlin Darcy and Liam Shuttleworth .

Great-grandchildren: Sadie, Hudson and Porter Hunter, Keo and Tao Bun, Marley and Sterling Carson. Viola is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Predeceased by: her parents James and Jaunita Richardson, parents in law Howard and Kathleen Carson, son Timothy Carson, daughter in law Michelle Carson, grandchildren Ashley, Savanah, Nicole, and Shawn Carson, great-granddaughter Salun Bun, brothers in law Ronald McComish and Lyle Schaitel.
