Obituary of Ken Towers

Kenneth Harry Towers was born on October 21st, 1944 in Galahad to Harry and Edna Towers of Alliance. Two years later his sister, Ruth was born.

The Towers family farmed east of Alliance for many years and were active in the community. Ken's father farmed with his brother Mark and his family, so Ken had many adventures with his cousin Dennis Towers.

School wasn't for Ken; he quit in his teenage years and went to work in the Merna Oilfield.  He loved being outdoors and doing everything he was asked to with a big grin on his face. He spent a lot of time with Uncle Earl and Auntie Gisella, who he got the chance to farm with.

In 1970, he met the love of his life, Betty Gordash. They married September 4th, 1971 and shared 53 wonderful years together.

Ken and Betty made their first home in Alliance where they rented a little house.  They lived there until Ken got a job offer from Killam Transit Mix to drive a cement truck. He was to start April 1, 1972, they moved and became residents of Killam for the next 53 years.

Many years of Ken’s life were spent trucking for Killam Transit Mix, Trailblazers, and various other companies. He spent a few years with his own company placing and finishing concrete, Kim-Alta, co-owned with Clarence Rott. A few years were spent at the Killam Memorial Arena making ice and maintaining the building. He loved farming for Stan and Jim Forster, and also enjoyed helping many friends get the crop off during harvest.

Ken’s family and friends were the most important part of his life. He always made sure to stop for a visit whenever he ran into a familiar face, but also loved meeting new people. Ken had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether he knew you or not. He touched the lives of many through acts of kindness and generosity which was a true testament to his selfless nature.

Ken spent many years volunteering with the Killam Fire Department, Killam Agricultural Society, and Killam Community Hall Board. He loved giving back to the community and surrounding himself with colleagues. His favourite part of the day was meeting up with his friends for coffee at the Stop Spot.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Betty Towers, daughter Tracy (Kenny) Petreman, son Kory Towers, and grandchildren Keegan Petreman and Paige Petreman (David). Also, Ken’s nephews Shaun Schafer and Kevin Schafer along with their father Daniel Schafer.

He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Edna Towers, and sister Ruth Towers. Numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. His parents-in-law Dmytro and Victoria Gordash, many brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law and countless friends.

A memorial service will be held June 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Killam Community Hall.
