Obituary of Fred LeGear

Fred LeGear Fred LeGear was born March 22, 1934 to Lyle and Eva LeGear at Galahad, Alberta. He passed away April 21, 2016 at the Killam Auxiliary Hospital. His father Lyle died when Fred was only 2 years old followed by his mother Eva, who passed away when he was only 6 years old. He was then placed in an orphanage until his Uncle Max LeGear became his guardian. He then moved to Forestburg. Fred took his schooling at Edmonton, Woodrow Country School, Galahad and Forestburg. He started working in a butcher shop after school and on weekends for John Wallsten. Then he worked several years at Coutts Hardware. In 1963 he went back to the meat cutting profession with Moore's Tomboy until he retired in 1993. Fred enjoyed sports of any kind and knew the statistics from years gone by. He coached minor baseball and spent many years managing the Forestburg Braves Senior baseball team. On May 6, 1961 he married Reta Crawford. They had 3 children, Scott, Doug and Nancy. In March 1999 he suffered a massive stroke which left him paralyzed. He then spent from August 1999 - October 1999 in Consort Long Term Care until he was transferred to Killam Auxiliary Hospital where he remained until his passing in April 2016. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Reta of 55 years, children Scott (Marlon) of Edmonton, Doug of Red Deer, and Nancy (Dave) of Forestburg, grandchildren Ashley, Sean, Courtney, Lee, Brady, Shantel, and Alysha. Great grandchildren Brooklyn and Gavin, sister Darlene (Bob), sisters in law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Lyle, mother Eva, guardian Max LeGear, brother Lorne and Bob (who was like a brother). A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29th at the Forestburg Community Hall.
