Obituary of Kathleen Hopfe
Katleen Ruth Hopfe was born at Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, Kathleen was the oldest daughter of John Howard and Olive Edith Foster. She was born July 25, 1928 and passed away peacefully on October 30, 2013 at the age of 85 years at the Hardisty Auxiliary Hospital.
When she was at the age of three, her family moved to the prairies and lived on the farm nine miles southwest of Amisk where the family grew and continue to farm. Kathleen went to school in the Popular Site District from grade 1 - 9.
As a young woman she love to help her mother with the household chores, reading and picking wild berries with her two younger sisters for canning. They experience through hard times but managed to store enough food to last the winters and still have plenty left without any luxuries or conveniences found in our kitchens today. She worked in several farm homes in the area.
On October 27, 1950 she married Stanley Wallace Hopfe and moved to Hardisty. Together they raised four sons. She kept busy as a good homemaker, really passionate about her family as she spent much time nourishing and feeding her family as well as cleaning and providing a comfortable environment for them. She loved to garden and one of her favorite flowers was the yellow rose. We could always tell when she had been gardening as her cheeks would turn a soft shade of pink and her forehead would glisten just a bit. She enjoyed her country weekly magazine, listening to country music, reminiscing those were the days and very good company never ran out of words to tell.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory with her three sons Albert, Leonard and Dean (Amy); nine grandchildren Melissa (Ryan), Stephanie (Michael), Deeanna (Nick), Dallas (Jackie), Jason (Lisa), Heather, Ashley, Vanessa and Logan; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister Beulah (Allan Hopfe) of Camrose and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents Olive and John, son Brent, husband Stanley and sister Irene Crone.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Hardisty Community Hall with DLM Judith Walker officiating. Interment will take place in the Hardisty Cemetery.
