Obituary of Ernest Dammann

Ernest Maxwell Dammann was born October 8th, 1921 in Ruthilda, Saskatchewan to Fred and Magdelena Dammann. He passed away July 24, 2015 at the age of 93 at the Killam Health Care Center. Ernie was the fourth of 13 children living through the hardships of life during the great depression and dust bowl. In 1942 during World War II he enlisted in and served with the second battalion of the Winnipeg Grenadiers and was posted on the Aleutian Island of Kiska. During this time his family moved to Killam, Alberta. At the conclusion of the war Ernie returned home, and through Veterans' Land Affairs he purchased land. Ernie met Dorothy Christenson at one of the local dances. They were married July 8th, 1950. Five children were born to this union: Terri (Allan) Kirkland step children Christine Simpson step grandchildren Dillon, Kennedy and Riley, Dale (JoAnn), Sandra (Brian) Moore children Roger (Gladys) grandchildren Cindy, Charity and Roger Jr., Scott (Linda), Vanessa (James) Gibeault, Randy (Jan) Dammann children James (Lelannie), Leanne (Jeremy) Maitland, Kim (Ginette) Dammann children Amanda (Andrew), David (Charlynn), Justine (Harley), Ashley (Kyle), Karen (Alvin) LeBlanc children Max and Chrissy. Ernie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy and sisters Helen Phillips, Marie Taylor, Dorothy Vennard, Shirley Kleinmeyer and brother Lawrence (Audrey) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie is predeceased by brothers George, Edward, William and Gordon, and by sisters Ann, Irene, Ruby, and granddaughter Jennifer Christine Dammann. Memorial donations in memory of Ernie may be made to the Killam Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
