Obituary of Jean Roddick
Dorothy Jean Roddick passed away peacefully on December 10th, 2016, in Galahad Care Centre at the age of 99 years.
Jean is survived by her daughters Marilyn Johnson (Allan) and Connie Southwell (Jim). Her five grandchildren Corinne Melin (Steven), Derek Johnson (Marion), Kelly Southwell Szekely (Mark), Kim Gleason (Jason) and Kent Southwell (Georgia) plus 11 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Allen, and 6 siblings.
Jean was born in Lamont, Alberta then moved to Grande Prairie with her family when she was 10. She grew up there and worked in the Royal Bank. She met Allen Roddick who was with the Bank of Montreal and they married in 1940. They move to various places in Alberta with the Bank of Montreal. In1960 they transferred to Forestburg where they later retired. Jean moved to Wetaskiwin after Allen died and lived there 11 years before moving back to the Big Knife Villa, Forestburg in 2000. In June of 2014 she moved to Galahad Care Centre.
Allen & Jean were active in every community where they lived. They loved traveling, golfing, and curling, plus camping and fishing. Jean loved to knit for her grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player travelling all over Alberta. She played Bridge up to 96 years. Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 65 years. Jean will be missed by her loving family and many friends.
Memorial donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Galahad Care Centre, Bethel United Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Cremation has taken place and a service will be announced at a later date.
