Alben Michael Zak of Killam, AB, formerly of Edmonton, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the age of 78 years, surrounded by family with the sound of songbirds around him.
Alben joins his loving wife, Edna, his parents Edward and Catherine Zak; brothers Edward, Peter, and Stanley; and sisters Victoria and Frances and other special loved ones in Heaven.
Alben is survived by his brothers Louie and Lawrence and sisters Rose, Josie and Pat. Along with his four loving daughters; Brenda (Zane), Barbara, Connie (Bernie), Lorraine (Trent); 15 grandchildren Krystal, Melyssa, Brendan, Benjamen, Kathryn, Evan, Kelly, Jasper, Vincent, Makayla, Riley, Maranda, Cameron, Evelynn, Joshua; 9 great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Parker, Tyler, Katie-Ann, Aveya, Jordan, Jacob, Lucas, and Addison.
Alben was born in Daysland in the summer of 1943 and was married to Edna Mills in April 1966. Together they raised their four daughters in Edmonton. Alben spent his last working years with Molson’s Canada and retired to Killam, AB in 2004. In Killam, Alben made many life-long friends, loved to go fishing and camping, thrifting for the best deals with his best friend and neighbour, Nick Smolski. He especially enjoyed watching his birds, playing cards with his family and was renowned for sharing treats with both kids and pets who stopped by to say hello. He shared how blessed he felt to have caring, supportive and loving neighbours. His open garage door policy and endless coffee brought together friends and family alike.
A sincere thank you to the Nurses and Dad’s Doctor in the Killam Health Centre, Palliative Unit, along with the staff at Flagstaff Palliative and Homecare Services for the loving, compassionate care and kindness provided to our loved one and our family. Memorial donations in memory of Alben can be made to the Killam Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of one’s choice.
