Dear uncle Joos,
We remember you as a kind man, who was always interested in our lives, a real family man. In former days when you visited our father Piet, it was always sociable. As kids, when we were in our bedroom, we heart our parents and the family from Canada singing and making music. It was always a happy party, when you and aunt Barbara spent time with us. Rene and I have good memories of you. It feels sad that we can 't contact you anymore but we are grateful that you was in our live.

Grandpa Joe, you were such a humble man, full of love, strength and encouragement. It is difficult to grasp the thought that I will never hear your voice again or be able to go for a country drive with you. In life and now death you would not want us to focus on the sadness and sorrow, but to continue to love and support each other no matter the situation.
Your warm smile taught us that love always conquers all. This is what those of us that were fortunate enough to have known you will always remember you by.
I remember the jokes you used to tell, the long walks down the gravel road, looking for crocuses together. The boat rides that we had down the creek, so peaceful that we could have drifted away, and the family hockey game on the creek every Christmas when you were the all star because you always played in boots! Your amazing card playing capabilities were astonishing to all of us, and your bocce ball skills weren’t too bad either when you happened to “see” the orange ball and didn’t kick it closer to yours. You had the best sense of humour and were always up for a good laugh, even if it was at your own expense.
Most of all I remember your great value and deep love for music, you always told me to never stop playing and that I won’t Grandpa, I will always be playing Ave Maria and Amazing Grace just for you. You were truly one of a kind!
The invaluable wisdom and advice, your unmatched passion for everything you did and set out to do are things you shared with me that are irreplaceable. Being by your side was truly a tremendous time of blessing, one which can and will never be forgotten.
tot we elkaar weer zien (Until we see each other again)

How we will remember Uncle Joe,
You have known the blessing of loving parents and both the excitement and pain of emigration, you have found the wonder of loving and being loved and you have experienced the joys of fatherhood and raising a wonderful family together with your wife, aunt Barbara. Throughout it all, you kept your love for farming, for music and books, and never lost your sense of humour. You have achieved everything you set out to do. May you rest in peace.

The times we visited Canada we had a very good time at Joe and Barbara's place. Joe drove us around rhe aria and took us to the farm. He loved to show us all the machinery and his truck. Joe was a real farmer, in that way he looked a lot like his sister Agnes (my mother) they where two of a kind. In the morning Joe made breakfast for us and Barabara made a " christmas"diner for us in the evening .We will always remember these special moments. R.I.P. ome Jos
