Obituary of Bernard Bendfeld

Bernard was born on July 8, 1943 to Theodore and Mary (nee Vos) Bendfeld, he was the third child in a family of five.  He grew up on the family farm five miles south of Strome where they worked hard and enjoyed farm life.  Bernard left the farm after completing high school & shared memories of his time working as a farm hand, on drilling rigs, in construction, custom combining throughout the States, and a memorable trip touring around Europe.

When his parents were ready to retire, Bernard returned to the family farm where he continued to work hard.  He became an active member of the community, was an avid baseball player and came home with many curling trophies.  He enjoyed social activities, liked to play cards, horseshoes, lawn games, dancing.  It was at a friend’s wedding dance that he met the love of his life, Coreen.

Coreen joined Bernard on the farm.  He was a lucky man as Coreen loved farm life and brought a ready-made family with her having two teenage girls and a young son to raise.  They hosted many functions, creating wonderful memories for friends and family.  As their family grew, Bernard enjoyed sharing his love of farm life with his grandchildren.

Bernard leaves to cherish his memory his children Lynn (Doug), Lisa, Brian (Amy), grandchildren Cole (Kelly), Terra, Jenesa, Ryan, Troy, Kaitlyn, Owen, Nelson, great grandchildren Archer and Marshall.  His brothers Ralph & Calvin (Karen), sister Jean Zimmer, brother-in-law Doyle Badry, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Mary Bendfeld, wife Coreen, sister Doreen Badry, brother-in-law Joe Zimmer and nephew Jeff Bendfeld.

A Prayer Vigil will be held at Fee & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 24th at 7:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Church on Thursday, July 25th at 11:00 am.  Interment will take place immediately after the funeral service in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Following the service at St Peter's, A time of fellowship and refreshments will take place at the Strome Community Hall in Strome, Alberta.

Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the St. Peter’s Historical Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
