Obituary of George Henry Schnyder
George Henry Schnyder was born to Olga and William Schnyder on August 14th, 1924. He passed away at Viking Health Centre on March 12th, 2017. George was fifth of seven children. He is survived by one brother Vernon of Camrose. He is predeceased by both parents Olga and William Schnyder and brothers Chester, Arthur, Walter, and sisters Clara and Vera.
On May 4th, 1944, George joined the Royal Canadian Army and took his basic training at Barryfield, Ontario. After his service in the army, he returned home on the Ile de France. When George returned home he worked for the Seismic Service Corporation in winter and the Department of Highways in the summer. He farmed some of his parent’s land until 1988. He sold his land but enjoyed his retirement still residing on the farm for several more years. Eventually failing health forced a move to Daysland and eventually to Extendicare in Viking.
George was a very generous donor to many different causes. He was passionate about the Stollery Children’s Hospital. He was a big-hearted man who enjoyed nature, walking in the country and growing a big garden. His neighbors will remember and miss him for his gentle and kind ways.
