Obituary of Aimee Kathleen Moody

Aimee Kathleen Moody was born 8 June 1928 on her parent’s homestead near Cartwright, Manitoba, to William Theodore Cantlon and Flossie Maude Cantlon.  She passed this world on 8 April 2018, in the Hardisty Health Centre after a long struggle with cancer.  She was just short of her 90th birthday.

Aimee was predeceased by her husband Harold Moody, and her son Bradley.  Aimee was the youngest of seven siblings, and was also pre-deceased by her sister Dorothy Clark and her five brothers, Everette, Arthur, Darryl, Lynn, and Alvin.  She spoke fondly of her years growing up on the farm and being constantly harassed by her rambunctious brothers, whom she ultimately loved very dearly.

Aimee moved to Hardisty with her parents in 1947.  She worked briefly as a waitress in the Cecil Hotel, then worked in the CIBC for several years.  At a Hardisty Lake party, Aimee met her future husband, Harold Leroy Moody whom she married on 2 September 1949.  Harold and Aimee became parents to daughter Patricia and son Bradley.  Later, she helped Lena Hopfe in her dry goods store.  She and Harold bought the store in 1969 and renamed it Moody’s Ready Wear.   They ran the store successfully for 10 years before selling it and semi-retiring.  Harold and Aimee were always involved in and supportive of the Hardisty community.

Harold and Aimee moved from the farm to the town of Hardisty in 1956 to be with Aimee’s mother. In 1961 Harold and Aimee bought their own house in Hardisty, which became their final residence.

Aimee found strength, passion, and solace in her religious belief.  She took great delight in helping to set up the Hardisty Christian Book and Thrift Shop.  She was very active with the United Church in Hardisty, where she earned a reputation as one of the most supportive and caring members of the congregation.  That reputation continued outside the church, with family and friends all agreeing that she was one of the kindest and most uplifting people that they had ever met.

Aimee was also devoted to caring for all her family and extended family members.  With cards, cakes, and cookies, she made all feel loved.  She and Harold were the primary organizers of tri-annual family reunions on the Cantlon side of the family, usually held at the Hardisty United Church camp on Hardisty Lake.  This became one of the most looked forward to events of the Cantlon clan.

Nature gave her endless joy!  She loved the spring, with the new plants, flowers, and the return of the birds.

She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Patricia, Patricia’s husband Harry, as well as daughter-in-law Beverley, grandchildren Lorraine, Maree, Jacqueline, Steven, Richard, and Treena, and great grandchildren David, Emma, Aimee (her namesake), Kay and Alyssa, and many other friends, relatives and her Hardisty community.

She and her immediate family are grateful to the staff of the Hardisty Hospital for their kind and thoughtful care during Aimee’s sporadic stays there.  She was always appreciative of the effort made by the nursing and other medical staff there.

The funeral service will be held at the Hardisty Community Hall at 2:00 PM on Saturday 14 April 2018.  Memorial donations for Aimee may be made to the Hardisty Auxiliary Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
