Obituary of John Grove
John Grove, second eldest child born to Pete and Emma Grove, passed away surrounded by love with his family by his side on June 22, 2019 at the Mazankowski Centre in Edmonton after a lengthy battle with heart disease.
Born March 30, 1939 on the Grove family farm north of Lougheed, John spent much of his teen years playing ball, curling and enjoying good times with his friends. He was living and working in Edmonton where he met his wife of 58 years, Gail Marilyn Crate. After a whirlwind courtship they fell in love and quickly married on July 29, 1961; together having four sons, Leslie, Todd, Randy, and Bryon.
John was veritable "jack-of-all-trades" and took pride in everything he did. Always ready to lend a helping hand when he could, John was well known in the community and liked by young and old. Never one to sit still, he could always find something to keep himself busy and on the go. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, trucking, farming, working, and many other activities. Nothing brought him more joy, however than the time spent with his family and friends.
John is predeceased by his son Todd; parents, Pete and Emma; sisters, Linda and Marta; brother, Carl; sister-in-law, Linda; brother-in-law, Bill; niece, Donna and her husband, Bill.
John will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Gail; children: Les, Diane, Randy, and Bryon; grandchildren: Beverly, Kurt, Braedon, Logan and Dylan; great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Paige, and Troy; sisters: Ann (Bill) and Ramona; brothers: Peter (Deb) and Clifford (Cheryl); as well as his many nieces/nephews, grandnieces/nephews, and close friends.
A celebration of John's life will be held June 29th in the Lougheed Community Hall beginning at 2:00 pm.
In Memoriam donations in John's name are requested to be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute or if preferred, another charity of the donor's choice. Donations are able to be received at the Celebration of Life, directly with the Mazankowski Institute (https://www.universityhospitalfoundation.ab.ca/donatenow), or in any other way the donor wishes.
